Farm & Camp Initiative
Back in 2017, our board began to dream & pray about what it might look like to start a farm where we could employ, develop, disciple & lead local people. This would increase the jobs in the area, eventually allowing Wetsembekile ministries to focus less on handouts of food and more on developing people & giving them the opportunities to earn an income & buy food for their families. Among other things, the farm would allow Wetsembekile to grow & sell food to the local communities, donate the food to our community centers to offset our costs, and provide jobs where people would be paid a living wage. We also began to pray & dream about what it could look like to start a Christian camp where kids could come and be a kid for a week & learn about God. Because of the HIV/AIDS crisis and extreme poverty, many kids have to grow up at such a young age & face difficult life circumstances.
As we were praying about these two opportunities, God closed the door on one piece of land that we were thinking about. We know that God is sovereign & his timing is perfect, so we just kept praying & dreaming & waiting. Then, we got a text about a piece of land that was for sale. As we looked at the specifics of this land, we were blown away at what God was doing. He had close the door on land about 3 miles away from where we were serving, and showed us this land right in the middle of the community we serve!
